Golf in winter
Happy New Year!
It has been really mild this winter in England and I had some good games of golf at the end of 2006. This made me believe that my golf in 2007 would be even better than last year.
In my first winter in Europe, I could not believe my eyes when I saw green grass under the snow. In Tokyo,Japan, where I grew up, the grass was brown in winter and green in summer. In Surrey, England, the grass is green in winter and quite brown in summer these days.
I learned to play golf in Japan where the ball went further on the dry brown fairway in winter. Here in England, the ball stops almost where it lands on wert and soft grounds in winter.
Lost distance annoyed me so much I played badly in winter and my handicap went up. Then one day , I heard a single handicapper saying that she loved winter golf as she knew alomost exactly where the ball would stop. ! (*0*) !
Of course, I decided to change the way I look at winter golf. Then I noticed I needed to practice more. Because you need to
- Know how long you carry the ball with each club
- Be consistant enough to trust your distance.
This helped me improving my handicap as I stopped going up in winter.
